Ear Infection Susceptibility

Regie Santos-Cortez, MD, PhD, associate professor of otolaryngology at the CU School of Medicine is leading a team looking a genetic variants associated with recurrent middle ear infections.

Their initial research found common variants of gene in Filipinos and South Asians and a rarer variant associated with recurrent middle ear infection in European-American children. This gene increases the chances of middle ear infections and may help explain why some children have more ear infections than others.
